"Las Madres Vineyard" Syrah, Carneros 2016
This cool-climate site is located in the rolling hills of the Carneros region, influenced by the daily encroachment of the marine layer drifting in from San Pablo Bay.
The cool marine layer, preserves acidity in the grapes and extends the amount of time they hang on the vine. The lengthy ripening period coupled with 11 months aging in 30% new and 70% used French oak, has developed a smooth, silky Syrah. The rich aromas of plum and cherry float alongside vanilla bean and toasted oak. Fuller bodied compared to the 2015 wine, the dark fruits are ripe with robust driving tannins, there's an underlying note of roasted pine nuts. Delicious with or without food.
