"Kick Ranch" Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County, 2016
Aromas of key lime, sourdough bread, cut grass and pears, delicate and floral. Bright and lively on the palate with well-focused acidity. Favors of citrus fruit, apple blossom and lime zest play on the palate.
Pure, refreshing and balanced, this sauvignon blanc finishes with a kind of light minerality that evokes memories of fresh, coastal breezes.
The Sauvignon Blanc was from the south-west facing slope of Diamond Mountain, on the Sonoma side. Aside from the fact this site is beautiful, this block is also habitat to turkeys, coyotes and even mountain lions. Fitting, as this vintage of sauvignon blanc, has that defiant “Sauvage” character. The grapes were harvested in late August, whole-cluster pressed and then settled in tank for 24hrs. The clear juice was then racked to barrels and stainless steel drums whereupon it underwent primary fermentation. When it was dry, the wine was lightly sulphured to prevent it from going through malolactic, then given an extended élevage on lees for 11 months before bottling.
